Happy Retirement A. A. Broekhuis

9:21 PM
I am Indonesian. When I was child, I was never dreaming to go to Europe.
The fact, I was there not just for days, but for months/ years. I obtained a scholarship to study in Groningen, the north region of Netherland.
Visiting a modern country and lived there for a long time was great.
The study itself was challenging and I still have to face the others challenges there. Different kind of food, different language and weather (I don't like cold temperature however I like the snow), and the fact that I lived far away from my home & didn't have family there could make me frustrated.

But I was lucky because I met good friends and students who helped and supported each other during our study. Special thank is addressed to my supervisor, Professor A. A. Broekhuis. Thank you for your time for discussion, proofreading, suggestion in publication, etc. You were not only guided me in the right directions learning but also very kind.

2015 is your last year academic dedication in University of Groningen. You have been finished it well and completely.

HAPPY RETIREMENT A. A. Broekhuis, It's a new chapter in your life.
Hope you always be happy and healthy.

  1. Dear Sir,

I am, was and will always remain proud to be your student. My PhD work would simply not be possible without your constant help, support and guidance.
Sir, I cannot find words to express my gratitude to you. Your help started even before I started my masters. I got your email accepting me as your PhD student on Thursday 1st of February 2007 at 14:45 PST, on the same day in morning when Zondervan (Student advisor) emailed me about refusal of my admission in masters course work due to late application. But after your email she replied me on same day at 16:46 PST, that Prof. Dr. Broekhuis (Chemical engineering) can accept you, when you have your own scholarship. Y
ou gave me full freedom to work and kept encouraging me. I always admit you are not only a best scientist but an excellent manager. Many times I came to you frustrated and mentally tired but your best managerial skills motivates me and I always leaves your office relax with great inspiration. In the last few months when I was writing my thesis, you skipped weekends (sorry to your wife) and rescheduled your agenda to finish the thesis within due date.
Thank you for your encouragement, support, patience, and guidance. Best wishes and Happy Retirement Sir.
